The Southwestern Company Corporate Blog
In the February 2010 Direct Selling News “Top Desk” column, Southwestern Company President, Dan Moore, addresses a new idea with very old roots. It has to do with the introduction of entrepreneurialism to young people. According to Dan, this is something that has been happening at Southwestern Company for a long time – 142 years to be exact.
Through direct sales, Dan has had the opportunity to share his knowledge and enthusiasm with thousands of college students. He says “it is a privilege to be in direct selling and working with the greatest young people inthe world.” He continues by saying, “it is exciting to teach enduring principles to young people, knowing they will add their own unique talents and flavorings to them as they grow their business within Southwestern’s direct selling program.”

Dan – this is a very good glimpse into the history of Southwestern when it comes to helping young people and teaching them life skills. Selling is not why students do this program, it is the byproducts they are after. I’m pround to work in a company that instills confidence, vision, work ethic and growth in our future leaders!

Dan,
congratulations! You are right on–while others are waiting for something to happen, SW student dealers are making it happen.

I agree with Trey! This is an awesome article and a great overview of why we do in fact “work with the greatest young people in the world!” I certainly can not think of a better place to work and I am also proud to work at a company where our future leaders reside!

Another thing I’ve heard Spencer Hays (and you, Dan) say is: There are three kinds of people in the world – those who MAKE things happen, those who WATCH things happen and those who WONDER WHAT happened. That’s what I love best about SW, that it’s made up of people who have learned that truth and in doing so, have literally changed their world! In a season when complaining about one’s circumstances is almost an expected way of dealing with life, the practice of hard work (the harder I work, the luckier I get) sets us free! Great Article!
